MCL, PCL, poserolater corner

Recommended Posts

Dr.

I crashed on Nov 26. I got the MRI's on Dec 12. Here were the results:

Posterolateral corner injury with high grade tear of popliteus fibular ligament (diffusely edematous and frayed). Moderate sprains of the arcuate ligament and lateral capsule.

Severe grade 2 sprain (edema and fraying consistent with partial thickness tear) of MCL with fluid tracking out into the anteromedial subcutaneous fat of the knee.

Nondisplaced fracture of proximal fibula and contusions in the lateral femoral condyle, lateral tibial plateau and medial tibial plateau.

Nearly complete transection of the distal PCL.

No meniscus tear. Moderate joint effusion and small popliteal cyst.

When I saw the orthopedic surgeon she put me in a knee brace locked at 0 degrees. I am allowed to walk with a cane. She told me stay in the brace for 21 days. I see her again on Jan 6 to reasses the treatment. No talk of surgery yet.

My question is, what should I expect in terms of treatment?

Thanks for any input.

The stress X-rays and the physicial exam are the keys do determining if surgery is necessary. MRIs over read this stuff all the time.
