a-kit blow off valve

heard theres some ways to tune this little bugger. anybody got any tips or hints?

in the main cartridge of my 49mm showa a-kit

somebody told me they believed it was simply to prevent cavitation. true?

Forgive me - it's not immediately clear to me where it's installed..

From what I see visible - It's not part of mid or base valve assemble - which then makes me think it's the top out spring??

if i remove the mid valve and then unscrew the huge allen piece at the bottom of the cartridge, this piece is right there

Yes, that's a top out spring. Some set the height at which the forks settle for corners, and some are merely there to prevent a clunk when the fork rebounds and gets to the end of the stroke...

You can run longer springs of various spring rates to tune how front end settles for turns.

I was told by one of the factory mechanics, that they lower their bikes for a better COG without sacrificing travel. And the top out spring came to mind as a way of doing this.
