lets hear about your sweet deals!

Recommended Posts

craigslist, ebay, trade, whatever. i wanna hear about some great deals you got on a dr. i like old fixer upper deals to!!

well i consider my purchase a good deal and it has me addicted to drs!!! i used to drive a 1996 gsx750f katana crotch rocket! it was my first bike and really liked it however i did not ride it much due to discomfort. so i sold it on craigslist for 2000 so i could purchase a dual sport to use as a commuter. well i was planning on only spending 2000 on my new bike but only could find high milleage for that price. after 3 months of religious craigslist searching i hit this deal and pounced on it. 2005 dr650 with 275 miles on it!!! i bought this in 2011 mind you. and the asking price... 2600. not a scratch or dent and always garage kept. pure showroom condition. only bad thing was it was bone stock. this guy was in a very rich part of town and ad a dang nice house. i guess he just had more money than time to ride it:bonk:. i could not even bring myself to talk him down on the price for this thing.

well i have had a smile on my face ever since i first rode it. you shoulda seen the s*** eating grin i had on my face on the first ride. and it was not hard to rack up a couple thousand miles on it

so how do you think i did? and please throw in a good story if you have one

Wow! That is a great deal! Hard to beat that.:bonk: I thought I had a great deal on a 2008 about 18 months ago off of Craig's list. Only 2,900 on it miles for $3,400. One small dent in the tank. It was cheap enough that I don't feel too bad about modding the hell out of it and ridding it like I was 18 again.?

Just picked up an early Valentine's Day present for my wife: 1989 DR100 off Craig's List locally for $150.

Took it home, hosed it off, cleaned the carb, changed the oil, removed the air cleaner (it was falling apart) and it started right up.

Will post pix this weekend.

Needs some TLC: Clutch and brake cables, new air filter, rear tire, new grips, duct taped the seat. Otherwise in nice shape.

Question: Which air filter to get? No-Toil? OEM seems a bit pricey.

I got my 2003 Dr650 for $2000 when I bought it. It already had the base gasket fixed, T-4 pipe, K&N filter and jet kit. I've modded the air box and went to more aggressive knobbies and put a bigger rack on the back. All in all it was a pretty good buy. Yesterday I went into the local Can-Am shop and scored some Moose Racing handguards on clearance for $34. They are the bar style without the brush guards. They also threw in a self tapping set of bar ends to use with them. So all in all I got about $70 worth of gear for $34! Not a bad deal.

My Dad and I have older year DR350S's he has a 1991 and it had 4,000miles on it. A tiny oil leak in the top and the guy asked for $1,200. My Dad got it for $400. He could've got it for $300, but the guy said he had to find the title so it was either $300 without a title or wait a week and get the bike for $400 and a title. I also got my first bike for free....a 1980 XR80. It was behind a garage in a hundred pieces in milk crates..not much of a deal, but it was a awesome little bike.

I picked up my Two Brothers M7 V.A.L.E. exhaust off of eBay from the previous owner for a $26 bid and $15 dollars shipping. Small paint rub on the end cap, and a scuff on the canister that is hidden by the side cover were the only problems. I been very proud of my score on this.

Have been planning to do emulators and springs in the forks for the summer season but there was an '05 RM250 with a blown engine on CL for $450 so I snapped that puppy up! Now I have complete front end for my DR, (USD forks). This is more than some get a front end for but shipping to Alaska is a killer that really drives the cost up so finding this locally was a sweet deal. I have the rest of the bike to part out or save for other projects. I may even put my DR front end on it and wait for a cheap small bike and put the engine in the RM frame.
