Gaskets

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, Thought id give this forum a go as a few of my mates have said it's pretty good. Anyway got a quick question.

I rebuilt the top end on my crf 250 about 6 months ago and only done about 10hrs on the bike, Iv'e stripped the bike now for the winter to get the cases cleaned etc, Is it ok to re-use the gaskets from the head and lower base gasket? they look fine to me but is there a rule that they must be changed?

Also, has anyone got any tips on cleaning engine cases up to get the factory look?

Welcome to the forum.:bonk:

And no, you can't re-use the gaskets. Once they are torqued and compressed, that's it. A one use item.

Do a search on the cleaning thing. There have been several threads on the subject lately.

I used some stuff called works. It's this stuff my wife uses to clean the toilet with. I mixed it with water in my ultrasonic parts washer, and it made anything aluminum look like new. It doesn't like steel. I accidently dropped a snap on socket in there and it came out black.
