GasGas 125 Pampera speed issues

I'm assuming the GasGas is an exotic...

I'm helping a buddy with a 2007 125 Pampera. It sat for a while, so we've cleaned the carb, spark plug, and the air filter. It runs smooth, but I took it for a run and it tops out at 60 km/h (~ 40 mph) at redline in 5th... I'm thinking it should be good for a bit more speed. Any ideas? Are we dealing with ridiculously low gearing? Thanks for any suggestions,

the problem is most of us have never seen a pampera.. but what from what i have read, they are like a big bodied trials bike, so top speed may not be that high...esp being a 125... even on the gas gas site, there are not many pampera's..

how is it geared ? how is the low end power ?

Low end power seems fine. I'm not sure about the gearing...

From what I know Pamperas have a trials motor in a very low seat height mounted enduro frame. They are in high demand since they are known to be great for tight trails etc...and the low seat height makes it a big draw. I haven't heard of a 125 before though . I figure that is more rare. The low gearing and the trials element toward the bike makes sense. The bike isn't built for speed.. it's more for trails and not high speed stuff from what I've heard....and have a good reputation.

I'm talking about the 2 stroke like here but I there are some 4 stroke commuter type pamperas too.. got some kind of honda air cooled 4t type looking motors in them. I've only seen the 2 stroke kind . 280 I think is the last one I saw . This guy from Kauai came to race here on Oahu and I checked in with him as his rear shock mount broke in the trail and didn't know if he was hurt or needed tools or something. Yeah, this is a 4 stroke 125. Like the one I linked to in my first post. It does look like a Honda engine. Just thought it would have more top end. Thanks for the info, though!

I missed it too! The 4 stroke honda type motor just doesn't have much beans. They should be as reliable as hell though.

I missed it also, neat looking bikes for what they are! you get a very good low speed singletrack bike.

I'm just thinking back to my Yamaha DT100 days (circa 1980 :-O ), and it could do 100 km/h. Of course, my buddies on their 125s (CRs and YZs) would leave me in the dust... So I was hoping for a bit more from the GasGas 125.

This is all the more surprising considering the gearing. There's a 38 tooth sprocket on the rear. I'm guessing there's about a 13T on the front (I didn't pull the cover off to check... ) But still, by rights it should have some legs. (By way of comparison, my TT-R 250 has a 44 tooth rear sprocket and it's good for 120 km/h plus; I know there are a heap of other variables involved, but I'm just comparing rear sprockets for the time being).
