Adjusting valves?

Recommended Posts

OK too much holiday celebration already and my brain is not working correctly. I am replacing valves (all 4) and want to get correct shim's on next trip to motorcycle shop. I want to set-up so that valves are at largest gap (within allowable range) ... so that will allow valves to wear and "tighten up".

Here's where the old brain is not working so well ... smaller shim = larger gap .... right :bonk:??? So I should start with smallest possible shim and then get larger ones as the valves tighten?

Appreciate anyone who can help explain:banghead:

Happy Holidays!

first you need to check the clearance with the shims you have now, mark witch shim goes to each valve, to tight smaller shim, to loss thicker shim,
