Need help removing the primary gear on my '01 MXC 300

Recommended Posts

I need to replace the right side crank seal on my '01 MXC 300 and don't have the gear wheel segment tool from KTM to block the primary gear so I can loosen the LH thread hex nut. Can you loosen the nut without the blocking tool? I'm not sure how to lock up the motor so I can get the nut off.

I've had good luck with a copper penny in the gears & a impact wrench. I tried again & again with a breaker bar & went thru 7 cents. Finally tried the impact wrench & it came off lickety split.

Remember the threads are reverse on the primary gear. :bonk:

Good Luck.

do you realise what you did to the crank/tranny shaft bearings ? you forced a penny through them gears and it spread the bearings open. not good :smirk:
