Recommended Posts

I just bought a kx250. It ran perfect yesterday. Now today, i got it running, but then it died when i walked away, im guessing from the cold weather. Now, every 5 or so good kicks, it backfires. BOOM. and wont start. whats wrong??

A backfire occurs when there is an imbalance in the air to fuel ratio. If the fuel mixture is too lean (not enough fuel) you may have a backfire in the intake, or too rich (too much fuel) you may get a backfire out of the exhaust system. Most backfires are easily fixed by correcting the imbalance and providing a greater or lesser percentage of fuel to the mixture.

Check the compression. If it's ok, change the plug. Always start with the simple things. Sometimes you get lucky.

mine backfires sometimes while kicking over from cold too but it will always start after.I would say you have a fouled plug and thats the first thing to change. When its colder you run leaner and if you were running a lil lean in the warmer times then you are too lean now.
