Q on a 82' XT550, do I need to pull the motor out of the frame to do the cyl. O-ring?

Recommended Posts

I, (well, my father) has a 82 XT550 and the cylinder base gasket O-ring is leaking. I was wondering if it is possible to just pull the head/cylinder body and not have to pull the whole motor out of the bike? Being as the frame in part of the oil sump my dad just wants to know if he can get away with it or if the frame will prevent us from getting off the head/cylinder.

Thank you for any help.

Thanks for the link, I already found that link in another thread you replied to and have it saved. (gasp, I know, searching a forum before reposting a question that may have been asked and answered 100 times. It practically deserves a medal. :bonk:)
