How To Identify Year OF Manufacture

Recommended Posts

Hi guys just bought a YZ 250 2T but i want to identify what year model it is so i can order the correct parts. It should be a 05, 06 or 07 but not sure... Or even, are the parts on these three years compatible? Like the rear suspension linkages.

Thank!

10th number on the VIN is the year, I think... If you want to check compatibility, find a parts fiche, Thumpertalk has them. Then compare part numbers between years.

From '06 on, there have not been too many changes and many of the chassis parts are interchangable. But as highflyer stated, check the online parts fiches to be certain.

05 has sliver tops on the fork caps, 06+ has a bronze color on the fork caps.

06-07 the way to tell is graphics package, do a google search, if it still has the stock graphics.

Isn't the VIN system a US thing? I know there was a law passed in the 80s.

Maybe his is different in SA? Not sure if Yamaha uses the same system worldwide.

Hmm, I'm not sure. :smirk: Good question.

One of those websites has lots of information in regards to who, when, and where the VIN system relates to. Perhaps the answers can be found there.

I just used motoverse to look up my 91 250 and it worked. I ran your vin and it came back as incomplete. Either you are off a value or its wasnt US sale. It did however come up as 1980 japan made, but could be a default.
