fork damper rod won't push out- showa 47

Recommended Posts

Bike: 04 crf250X,

showa 47 mm forks

Left fork leg had NO damping. When I drained the oil there was fine metal dust in it.

I just tried to take it apart: I loosened the damper nut on the bottom of the fork and compressed the fork together. The damper rod is supposed to push out so you can catch it with the tool and take the nut all the way off. But it doesn't push through, even though I compressed the fork pretty far. The nut is definitely as loose as it gets.

Any help getting this apart and back together again?

Thanks!

cant you pull the rod up with the rebound adjuster whilst holding the fork leg down so you can get to the jam nut?

I was able to grab the nut with vice grips and pull it it out then take it apart.

The end of the rod kept pulling up (contracting) instead of pushing down (extending). I took it all apart and the damper assy seems to be the source of the metal dust in the oil. There is some where on on the damper bushings but nothing that loos like it wold create that much metal dust.
