97 XR400 choke flips closed when I use throttle

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

So I went for a ride and as I was accelerating up a hill my bike cut out and was barely running so I limped to the shoulder to take a look. It turns out that my choke has no tension holding the lever down, a quick twist of the throttle flips the choke closed. I threw a zip tie around the lever and the fuel line for a quick fix, has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas?

Thanks

I've read of a few cases of this. The bracket that the lever mounts in is usually loose. The bracket provides "detents" for the different positions. If the bracket screw is loose or not tight enough on the lever, you'll have this problem.
