New black rims!..

Recommended Posts

So I ordered some new black excel takasago rims for my 05 yz250. They just came in yesterday and I noticed that they are noticeably thinner than the stock ones on the bike, between 1/4 and 1/2 inch difference. When I ordered from btosports the only option they had was 18 or 19x1.60 for all yz's from the 125 to the 450 so I figured it was the correct one if it was the only one available and I knew it needed to be the 19 inch one. I'm just wondering of it'll be alright before I lace it up. Would it change the tires traction in a bad way having the beads pulled in closer or anything like that?

Thanks, Kyle

When I check the sizes for excels on MCsuperstore.com for my 05 RM, the rear sizes are 1.85 or 2.15 for both 18" and 19". When I was looking for an 18" rear, I was told to get the wider wheel as the thinner was meant for a 125. Not sure if that is accurate, but good luck.

Thanks for the replies! I just looked it up again, it was the front one that is 21x1.60 so i think that is right. And the rear is 19x1.85, which is the only option for YZ125/250, and then they have 19x2.15 for the YZ250F and 450F. So are they wrong and I should reorder the thicker one they say are for the four strokes? Is it going to make a noticeable difference?

Wow who does the anodizing for $50?

I have a local guy who does them for me.

As far as using the 1.85 rim on a 250 2 stroke, I would not personally do it, it will change the cross section of the proper size 110 90 tire for the bike. It may have better side traction, but straight line traction will suffer.

1.85 for 100 tires

2.15 for 110 tires

Yeah.

I tried the 100/90/19 tire and I don't like it.

I agree... the 250 smoker needs a little more.

Typically:

=======

100 on the 125 and 250F.

110 on the 250 smokers (Sometimes used on 250F and 450F)

120 on the 450F and 500 smokers.
