Cam bearing surface repair

Recommended Posts

A while back I saw a post where someone had a cylinder head with damaged cam bearing surfaces due to oil starvation. They sent the head into a shop that repaired it by inserting sleeves. Can anyone tell me what shop does this work?

Thanks

I thnk XR's Only does this. I believe that they weld the surface up and then machine it. If I remember correctly it a rather expensive $150 or so.

Being in NZ I wouldn't know apart from saying we used to get half shell bearings put in the older XR/XL250 heads many years ago if they suffered a seizure which they were kinda prone to do with a lack of oil changes and hard going,,Worked well, but was a pretty specialised job ,, Local bike club member was a hell of an engineer and he did the work,,Very smart guy who's still in business today but he picks and chooses what he does now.,(Left him a 500 shock to rebuild about a year back and he still hasn't got back to me yet,,he's got lazy),,Suppose I should ring him to see what's happened to it.,For us in those days it was far cheaper than buying a whole new head.,Prices of new stuff back then were horrendous and there was no such thing as spares.,
