96 rm250 starting problem

So I have a completely rebuilt motor with power reeds and new gold series pipe. When I try starting the bike it won't start cold unless I turn the gas off and then it will start up? Does this mean float height is to high? I have a 55 slow and a 172 main in it right now. Anything will help thanks

Double check float height and while you have the bowl off, turn fuel on and lift float to see if the fuel shut off valve is working. If it is dirty or worn, it will let too much fuel into the bowl.

Where is your pilot air screw adjusted to, and what temp is it there when you are trying to start it? +1 on tailenders float needle check
