02 RM 250 ring gap

Recommended Posts

Cylinder = 2.614 + change

Piston = 2.612 + change

old rings gap = .028

New Rings gap = .021 This is the part I do not understand. I thought it would be around .012-.017

This is using Suzuki OEM parts and measuring per manual.

I only see ring with no different sizes when looking at OEM parts finder.

Also, is there realy a A,B,C,D, etc cylinder designation for Suzuki? I have seen that comment posted in general terms before.

If so, where would I find that.

Thanks in advance for anyones time it takes to respond

The ring gap is the minimum gap that can safely be used. That's why it needs to be checked with each new install. So a standard size ring will fit all ( not overbored) standard piston sizes no matter what the letter. Different letter pistons give a better fit on a slightly worn cylinder. Cylinders are not made to letter size.

Thanks, I checked out Wiseco site as well, before I decided to go with OEM top-end. My cylinder bore measurment did not warrent a change in my opinion.

Pro X offers a top end for this model and year on the site. It gives the best visual as to what is being discussed. Ref. A,B,C,pistons

I completed the top end while I was away. Def. sounds tighter.
