KX500 AF conversion Expansion Chamber

Recommended Posts

Just a little thing I have been wondering... Obviously the pipe used on stock 500s, even late models, was pretty funky shaped.

But on the new service honda kx 500s, the pipes appear to be like 250 pipes, or later CR pipes.

I know that changing the shape of a pipe drastically changes performance. Does reverting to this shape retard the power of the bike? Does it modify the power delivery heavily?

Do they simply modify the angle of the pipe to make it fit?

Would love to know, especially since my project the summer after next is a conversion ! :smirk:

The shape of the stock pipe was dictated by what was needed for it to fit in the frame. Service Honda uses custom pipes for their 500AFs, but I don't think there are drastic changes to the dimensions, just the shape.

I'd bet that FMF pipe improves performance all the way through......
