Moordenaars Karoo recce ride

Recommended Posts

The past weekend saw 5 Wilddog riders from the Western Cape ride 940km into the Moordenaars Karoo (Murderers Karoo) one of the driest places in the country.

In spite of the 40 degree plus heat the ride took the party over some of the best gravel roads in the country plus rocky mountain passes and technical sections across sand double track through the Anysberg Nature resreve.

The objective was to set up a route for the upcoming WC Bash to be held at the end of March with its base in the tiny Karoo town of Laingsburg.

Many years ago the town was swept away in a giant flash flood. Most of the town, cars, animals and houses were swept down to the Floris Kraal dam and then with the water more than 3 metres over the crane on the top of the wall the entire debris flowed through the Buffels Poort canyon and ended up on the farm Buffels Drift nearly 100km downstream.
