Cam chain question

Recommended Posts

You've installed the new standard piston and you're hooking the cam chain back up, how do you set the timing for the the cam sprocket position and the cam chain?

there are 3 marks/lines on tha cam sprocket...

Install cam under chain with lobes facing down...now align the 3 marks(2 of those are the ones that need to be parallel to the valve head surface) and push sprocket on...the third line I beleive is to mark tdc or as a reference mark to make sure your lobes are facing down.

Attach one screw of the sprocket, rotatate 180 and screw in other.

There is no 180 off on these bikes so dont worry about that, just make sure you camchain isnt stretched, you will notcie its stretched if you cant get those two lines/marks parallel to the head surface....

The lobes facing down is to help installation of the valve cover so its not too hard...also use rubber bands to keep the sub rockers up in place...that right there makes installation a breeze,

good luck!

Before doing anything, you must 1st position the piston at TDC using the timing mark on the flywheel.
