drz 440 jetting problems

Recommended Posts

I have just fitted a 440 kit to my drz with a full FMF power bomb system, monster coil and a JD jetting kit. problem is it wants to run lean even after adjusting the circlip on the pin down to the 4th and 5th groove, i haven't tried the very bottom groove yet.

its a 02 E model with the flat slide carb, can anyone give me a guide to mixture screw settings and circlip settings, i live in north Queensland so very hot humid conditions.

So your got a JD jet kit for your E with big bore..

Why do you say it's lean.?..Blue needle cilp 4 for will not be too lean for your climate ..It is perhaps the opposite and is too rich..

Try running it with the air box side cover removed..Better or Worse??..I presume the air box snorkel has been removed...

If it's better , your too rich..

The following jetting should be ok for near sea level

155 main jet..

200 main air jet..

100 pilot air jet..

EMN needle clip 3 or stock DXP needle clip 5 or JD Blue Needle clip 4..

45 pilot jet..

2.25 turns fuel screw..

Remove the coast enrichener..The CE richens the fuel mixture on deceleration to prevent backfiring...It's basically an air cut off valve that relys on engine vacuum.. over time tends to become inconsistent..It can stick, the rubber deteriorates and can cause jetting issues...http://www.thumperta...ichener+removal

How to confirm your pilot circuit setting- http://www.thumperta...ad.php?t=327405

To make easier pilot circuit tuning I recommend get a R&D Flex Jet remote fuel screw...You will need to slightly enlarge the fuel screw orifice on the bowl.,(with a drill) to install the Flex Jet.http://api.viglink.c..._13148725794081

Do the Eddie Mod if you have any bogging issues..http://www.thumperta...light=eddie+mod

Thanks for the advice, i'll remove the coast enrichener and see if it improves. I've had the air box cover off the whole time i've been trying to tune it so couldnt tell if theres any difference with it on, the snorkel has been removed. The main reason i thought it to be lean rather than rich is its making the pipe glow rather rapidly even with the blue needle on the 4th, that being said i don't know if my logic is correct, but i will try your advice and see how i go. Much appreciated, Cheers.

You are going to ride it with the side cover on??..you need to check your final set up with the air box side cover installed..

More air will cause leaner condition...

i only had the cover off while tuning it in the garage i havent ridden it since i did the build on it, just wanted to get it running reasonable before i take it out.

But your idea seems to have worked i took off the coast enrichener and returned the clip onto to 4th on the blue pin and its ready to hit the track tomorrow,

thanks your advice is appreciated.
