1982 yamaha xt 550 pics

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if someone could post detailed picks of part locations on their bike (if it hasnt been done already) specifically i don't know where my kill switch is, I might never have had one and the neutral switch. Also what box goes up next to the speedometer, I just have some wire connectors hanging out, main switch mabye? Lastly I am confused with the wiring for my blinkers. I have the blinkers, they each have 3 wires but Im unsure where they should be connected. Pics are great. Thanks!

The factory kill switch is on the throttle assembly.

The box next to the speedo is where the tach goes. The wires are for the lights inside the tach.

The neutral switch is inside the transmission behind the front sprocket cover.

The key switch is between the speedo/tach and the handle bar clamps.

Front turn signals have three wires, the rear has two. However, wiring all four for two exclusively or three inclusively wouldn't be difficult.

Sounds to me like you have a pretty rough XT on your hands.

If you want to make it street-able, I highly suggest getting a keyed switch. It wont' prevent anyone who seriously wants to take your bike from doing so, but it will keep the morons from taking it for a joy ride.
