Recommended Posts

Can anyone explain to me how someone just crashes in a heat race with a 6 second lead, off of a basic jump?

I'm really am trying to understand. I literally couldn't believe my eyes. Who in the hell crashes in a heat race like that?

I called that crash as soon as he pulled the lead. It seems that when he's out front he looses concentration or tries to step it up a little to much

This coming from 2 people that have never ridden on a track , i am guessing ! ,, you can take the same jump or same section 10 times , and once out of those 10 times find a spot that will kick the bike , not give it enough lift , or send you sideways , happens all the time , angle of approach slightly off , too much throttle , not enough throttle ,, if it were anyone else you would have said , nothing :smirk:

When do you crash? Do you save it for the main?

It wasn't the first time you've seen him crash, so why are you acting so surprised. Obviously, it wasn't that bad. He got up and rode pretty darn good the rest of the night, didn't he?

The announcers said that he was trying a different line through that section. Obviously it didn't go to well.

He was trying to figure out the same line that Tomac was using. It happens... all those guys like to try new lines in the heat races. Beats doing it in the main and making a mistake. Notice he used that same line every lap in the main that he crashed on in his heat race.

Yeah that little tire tap triple thing they were doing looked pretty impressive/sketchy/takes lots of skill.

I can see why he crashed.... cuz it was freakin hard to do!

Also that, step-on, step-on, step-off line looked super fast but super sketchy if yo didn't do it right.

looked to me like he was trying to tap his rear wheel of the lip inbetween, hit the lip a little crossed up or leaning and the bike kicked out, he came up a little short and with the bike kicked out and went into the tough blocks.

How do you usually crash? decide that jumping into the face of the landing looks like fun or swapping through woops looks cool and go for the yard sale? its racing, and when your pushing it shit happens.

I could see it coming, he was coming out of the corner into that section with the back end washing. So he would straighten the bike out as he would go though that section. So when he went to do the tire tap he was sideway in the air. He was also still on the gas so when the tire hit the tip of the jump/hip it broke traction and slid more and you see the end results. But he was riding very well, the bike looked great. I'm not trying to say anything to crazy but a lot of people has a hard time with that section. I though it was a good race.

That was a hard crash! In the CBS broadcast they showed the go pro footage and it almost seemed like you could hear him grunt when he hit his chest on the bars.

Obviously you have never tried to wheel tap a triple, let alone a roller section. Wheel tapping is difficult and sketchy as hell, I've ate s@!t a couple times doing it, it's not an easy skill. Also, I am a JS7 fan but can you really saw you were surprised when he crashed with the lead, look at Daytona of last year, he crashed with a huge, well huge for the competition now days, lead and threw it away. I do think he loses concentration out front and in the heats tries new lines but loses focus, but he was impressive the rest of the night if you ask me.

He got a little sideways off balance on the bike trying to wheelie tap. That's all it took to loose his momentum and let the front end down. Not really any way to save it when you are already committed at speed to jump the triple. Looks like he minimized the damage by tucknroll for a tough block instead of the face of the jump. Could have been way worst if he had augered in. Stewart is a tough guy. Said he may have broken a rib in the post race interview. Said he could not breath without hurting. If he did that's a painful injury that doesn't just go away in few days. He will be hurting a few weeks. I thought he may have damaged his wrist when his hand popped loose off the bars, or maybe he pulled his hand off on purpose to keep from injuring it again. Anyway you can tell when he knew he was not gonna make it he was trying to get to one of those tough blocks if possible. A LOT softer than the ground.
