If your cables are all lubed well and not frayed and the throttle housing on the

handlebars has the correct clearance so it doesn't bind on the end of the

bars go to the thread below and read the last 5 or so posts on page two.

I would definitely try what is stated in those final 5 or so posts before looking

to buy a new or different carb.,The AVC is behind a plate on the left side of

the carb and is held on by two screws. Careful the spring doesn't send bits

flying as you undo the screws. That mod has fixed my XR600s hanging idle/stiff throttle

I'll be recommending anyone with the stiff throttle hanging idle try it

before doing anything else to a carb with that problem. As is said you will

need to change the Pilot jet and adjust the fuel screw to suit. I'm now at

a 55 in the Pilot (originally a 68) and that seems good for my bike.

Yours will not be the same in the size needed in that department.

I'd say go down at least 2-3 sizes after you plug the ACV following

the change., If it works you just saved yourself hundreds of dollars,.or in your case pounds

thanks for the reply. had a look at the link but dont think thats the problem. when i took the top of the carb i can see wear marks on the throttle body where the slider moves up and down and if i spray it with wd40 the slider snaps back every time but it dosnt last long before it starts to stick again.

thats even with the throttle cables disconected or not. still rekon i need a new carb, im down to a 58 pilot jet and dosnt make any difference turning the mixture screw in or out.

All the worn 600 and 650r carbs have the problem. Mine did not

look particularly good in the marks on the slide or body of the carb

either. Those are or could be partially the issue but it's more to

do with the suction created in those carbs. Believe me that mod will almost

certainly solve the problem. However if you think you need a new carb

go ahead and spend the money. My carb also appeared to work fine

and return correctly without cables or with cables etc.

I totally believe the suction thing is the issue and the ACV mod fixes it but you do as you see fit.
