Colorado TELLURIDE AREA PEEPS! Wilderness comments 2/10

Recommended Posts

We apologize for the short notice - but we still have an opportunity to comment to Congressman Tipton and his staff regarding the San Juan Wilderness Bill this Friday, 2/10/12, from 7pm to 9pm in Telluride in the Miramonte building - 2nd floor. Address is 333 West Colorado Avenue, Telluride, CO 81435.

According to the recent newspaper article, Congressman Tipton is still noncommittal as to whether he will continue to push forward this bill.

Some questions to ask his staff at the meeting:

• Why the push for Wilderness?

• Why change from National Forest designation - what are they afraid of happening?

• Why expend the costs of the change from maps, to implementation, to enforcement, etc.?

• Why, in some cases, designate lands as Wilderness when they border a county road (Last Dollar)?

• Why eliminate any opportunity for logging aged forests or eliminate any mechanical fire-fighting methods?

Use the quote from the Obama Administrations' Agricultural Secretary Tom Vilsack who says the new forest rules "...should emphasize multiple uses...and such projects as forest thinning and efforts to reduce wildfire."

Please click on the following links to read the documents.

Wilderness does not help forest health- significant factor contributing to pine beetle outbreak and limiting FS response to the beetle. This is a threat to all users!!

Wilderness is a negative economic impact activity. http://www.environmentaltrends.org/fileadm...brief062011.pdf

Motorized trails are a significant positive economic contributor to small communities being targeted for development by the FS.

Hey, Rod

Just saw this for the first time today. I've been going to Silverton for the last three years and ride around the Telluride area when I'm there.

I love that area!

What the latest on this news? What can I do from OK?
