Bridged exhaust. How much to relieve?

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys. Long story short, my long-rod motor project went great, just what I wanted. However, we were forced to go from a 60mm bore to a 58mm bore, unfamiliar cylinder. Motor took itself out in 2 hours, ring broke, piston had groove at exhaust bridge. I've dealt with this before on the 60mm cylinder, argued with Rick Peterson about it, told him to "Relieve it several more thou" and never had it groove the piston again. It is used for iceracing and run WFO much longer than would be possible on dirt (6 mile roadrace tracks) so I'm pretty sure the bridge grows more than typical dirt use, as the throttle is pinned upwards of 15 seconds.

SOoooo, I'm wondering if anyone knows what is TYPICAL for a 125 exhaust bridge to be relieved by? I'm hearing 1-2 thou from some. Hoping for concrete experience in this.
