Ceramic coating aluminum sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I am looking at the idea of doing an aluminum cylinder sleeve in an air-cooled engine and having the bore nickle-silicon or nickle-carbide coated? Any suggestions about who is doing good work on cylinders these days?

Well, can't run the piston on the bare aluminum cylinder casting (it is too short, doesn't extend into the cases and will wear badly) and I want to replace the cast iron sleeve with an aluminum one like the old TT600 ran. I found MT.com and Kustom Kraft Performance.

Cast iron cylinder liners are pretty much the ideal material for cylinders. Nikasil is awsome because it allows running a cylinder without a sleeve for better cooling. But cast iron is still about the best material for when a sleeve is used.

Does your air cooled engine have an iron cylinder casing or aluminum?

The air-cooled cylinder has an iron insert in a cast aluminum cylinder.
