ticking noise

Recommended Posts

I just did a valve job and installed s.s. intakes with new exhaust valves and springs. Installed new wiseco piston with the arrow facing the exhaust and my problem is that there is a ticking noise almost like a hydraulic lifter noise (but, obviously no lifters in this engine) and the noise seems to progressively get worse as the engine heats up. I pulloed the motor back apart and can not find anything wrong and no visible wear marks.....any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I double checked the lash and it is right on the money= .006 on the intake and .011 on the exhaust and .014 on the decompression....

I'd double check the timing as well. Also, did you check the cylinder bore diameter from bottom to top? A little wear can form a lip at the top of the bore. The rings on wiseco piston may ride a bit higher and be catching the lip if there is one or getting squeezed a bit at the top and then opening back up after it they move down.

Jim.
