Exhaust Header Red Hot

I have a 1993 KLX650. I started it yesterday and let it run and idle for an extended peiod of time. The exhaust header became glowing red hot. i was wondering if this was nomral by just letting it idle for an extended period of time or I have a mixture that is too lean and may need to be rejetted or an exhasut valve stuck or something. Let me know if this is normal and just due to the idling and not riding. Thanks.

any bike will do this, especially when choked. If i remember correctly, those kawis ran hot from the factory. Bikes are meant to have airflow due to their small cooling systems. dont let them idle more than a minute or two once warm

Also, some header material heats up quicker than others. Titanium will glow red hot in a second!

this is asked all the time, probably the most common question asked by new members. its normal, especially in dim lighting. also, you should not let a bike sit at idle with no air flowing thru the radiators for extended periods of time.
