Rear brake failure

Recommended Posts

I have had a rash of brake failures on my 300xc. I re-built the mastercylinder (and it was worn out) and seemed to fix my problem, but I rode at Highland Park in Ga on Saturday and had another brake failure. It seems that there is a leak in the rear brake caliper. It does not look like it is coming from the bleeder valve, but there is brake fluid accumulating on the top of the caliper on the outside. I know there is a rebuild kit for the piston o-rings, but I wanted to see if any of you have had this problem and what the fix was.

My rear brake failed on my 8 month old 11 300xc. Dealer replaced a $ 3 dollar seal in master cylinder. all is good now. Hope to not have any more failures.

Unfortunately it is not the master cylinder, but I know exactly what part you are talking about.

I looked last night and there is a lot of black greasy fluid around the piston on the brake caliper, so I imagine that the two gaskets need to be replaced around the piston.
