What would happen if I ran a 13 tooth sprocket and a 51 tooth sprocket on my 2001 KX125?

Recommended Posts

What would happen if I ran a 13 tooth sprocket and a 51 tooth sprocket on my 2001 KX125? I bought a tire and rim on ebay and it came with a brand new Primary Drive 51 tooth sprocket. Is this right? will it give me more bottom end? Also what will the 13 tooth do? I am new to drivetrain maintinance and could use some advise. Thanks.

You'll go faster and lose low end.... Personally (and this is coming from a trail rider), I would run 11:47-9 on a 125 2t. The general rule of thumb is 1 tooth up or down on the front is equivalent to 3 teeth on the rear. It's all about the ratio.

What are the current sprocket sizes on your bike?

If your going from a stock 12t to the 13t, you will gain more speed and loose some low end power. Going from the stock 49t to a 51t will make the bike slower, but will give it more low end power. So going up 2 teeth in the rear will cancel some of the affects of going up a tooth in the front. In the end, going with a 13t:51t set up is probably going to be a little bit faster than stock, but you will loose some low end power.
