Gasket Lesson Learned

Recommended Posts

I learned not to work on the carburetor of your son's new dirt bike after he has been riding in the yard before his birthday party. It only leads to to frustration. He was riding his CRF80 for the first time and it kept cutting out. I decided to "quickly" take the carburetor off and clean it and the jets. Once off the float bowl gasket started to expand (about 1/4 of an inch). There was no way it was going back in. I rushed in and had the dealer order me a gasket kit. Later that night after several drinks I went over to look at the parts and guess what.....the gasket fit. I put it back together and it fired up. Lesson - gaskets expand when hot and take several hours to contract. :bonk:

I guess I better stick to working on the bikes late at night after the boys go to bed.

I did not cancel the gasket kit order so I will have it if it starts to fall apart. I don't plan on getting rid of that bike for awhile so it will probably get used.
