Supercross Whipping the bike

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, so I was watching supercross last night and noticed that they all whip their bikes over the big triples. I've never really jumped too much so I was wondering whether it helps their flight or distance or something, or if it's just purely for style?

they can go faster on the ground than it takes to clear the triple so they "scrub" the jump to stay lower and not overjump while keep up extra momentum.

LOOK AT THE WHIP!

I always thought whips were for just looking cool and scrubs were for speed.

yea, almost every rider nowadays will "scrub" which is like a half whip to stay low and get over the triple as fast as possible. at the end of the race, sometimes they will throw out a sick whip for the fans (Barcia this week, Deano last week, ect.)

So it keeps them closer to the ground and makes them faster?

Si señor.

Unless they're really cranking one out it's probably a scrub or getting set up for a corner.

Viper, Next time you ride in your car. Hold your hand out the window at 40 mph sideways. That is a whip or scub. all kind of resistance hitting a bike when it is going though the air sideways.
