Holy smokes~!

Recommended Posts

It's been exactly 414 miles since the last oil change. The bike sat for about a month during winter. I go to start it and thick white smoke billows out the pipe, and it smells like oil. The dip stick shows very little oil.

Next thing to do is drain the oil and check actual amount. I fear for the worst. Thoughts?

Not enough information.. .. How was the bike stored for winter?

Was it running normally when last used? Unless you let it warmed up, then shut off, rested a few minutes and THEN checked the oil, dip stick level means little.

Your on the right path, drain the oil, see where you’re at.. change the filter while you’re there...... likely your going to want to do a leak down test if you find when you go to start it again it still smoking

everything was fine the last time it was ridden. bike was not prepped, wasn't actually storage, just didn't had the time to ride it during that time.

and yea, checked the dipstick a while after starting it and definitely low on oil. strange because this has never happened before. the oil gets changed every 1000 miles.

bike has about 6000 miles on the odo. where could the oil have gone? :bonk:

Assuming no undiagnosed hard mechanical failure on your last ride,,,, Do a leak down test, you or a shop…if you’re losing more then %10 and the air movement is into the case.. You are likely to fond stuck rings on the piston.

Bottom line, check fluids, start, still smoking..do a leak down test. Go from there.
