Whats the point of Nike making boots...

Recommended Posts

... if they're not going to sell them. Stewart and Dungey have been wearing Nike's for three seasons counting the current one and the boots to my knowledge still aren't available to the public. Do they have no plans to sell them? If not why make them? Is it just a marketing ploy to sell more shoes. I may buy Nike's on occasion but it has nothing to do with them making a MX boot for Dungey and Stewart. Usually they just had a style I liked on the clearance rack.

Well when you have a company worth $67 billion, you can do whatever the &%$#@! you want. They are not using Dungey or Stewart for R&D on their boots. The boots are there to market the Nike 6.0 brand in the MX scene. Pretty simple. RD and JS are not the only athletes that Nike supports without a product line to the athletes respected sport's.

Nike's surfing and wakeboarding athletes come to mind.

Wanna know how many of James' brotocross fans bought nike kicks after seeing this gaudy photo? A lot.

Furthermore, what does SkullyCandy, Volcom, Hart & Huntington, Adidas, Sycuan Casino, or SillyBandz have to do with MX? Or even the title sponsor energy drink companies?

Nothing really when you think about it. But clearly MXr's are a target market for these companies and the more exposure the better.

i would never buy them anyways.....its like buying a snowboard that a ski company makes. i wouldnt support them out of principle. riders should support companies owned and operated by riders, not corporations that capitalize on a market once it becomes big.

People said the same thing when Nike introduced a snowboard boot. Personally I refuse to wear anything but a Nike snowboard boot now. They are like wearing pillows on my feet......Nike knows feet and if they decide to make boots I will no doubt give them a try. If anything I will have a comfortable (a given from Nike) backup for my Sidi's

Thats one thing I cant stand. Why does every bike have to have a Monster, Red Bull or Rockstar graphic on in it? I agree thats the bike owners own preference but why do 20 out of the 25 bikes on the track have this type of branding all over their bike? So much for individuality.

However I guess Im out of the norm, I dont want any type of logo (other than the bike brand) plastered all over my bike.

So its mostly marketing. That's kinda what I figured. I have no problem with them sponsoring riders. Other shoe companies do it as well( DC, DVS,Vans). Just seems since they're making a boot they would sell it. I don't dislike the looks but it would have to be priced around the Tech 8's or less or I wouldn't consider it for purchase.

As for outside or corporate sponsors coming in. The more that come in with big money to bring to the table the more the sport can grow and hopefully more and better T.V. coverage. There's only so much money in the industry so it will take outside money to grow the sport.

i think the nike boots look horrible and they would cost way to much if they wanted to sell them. id like to see vans make a motoboot. that would be sick

What if they looked horrible and cost a lot? Troy341

Couldn't have said it better myself.
