Xl500 r pulse generator

Recommended Posts

I've got an 82 xl500r with no spark. My clymer book says the pulse generator should read 20-60 ohms. The one in it read 120 ohms so I figured it was bad.... Got one on eBay that is supposed to be for my year and model but it reads 540 ohms. Searching the web I find as many references to 60 ohms as I do 550. Anybody got some insight into what correct reading should be. I have found 2 on eBay so far that are claiming to be for my 82 that read about 550 ohms.

In case you are wondering I put the 540 ohm one in but still no spark :bonk:

Time to start borrowing pieces from a running bike. It may not hurt to give Ricky Stator a call either. Also, clean and inspect all your grounds, if you've got perfect electrical components and a bad ground in the right spot, it's not going to run no matter what you do.

Heat them with a hair dryer as you take ohms readings,if it changes alot or shows open it's bad. For another test use a magnet to trigger a pulse and watch the meter on milli volt setting. or if your meter has a spike recording on it,that's even better.
