Spark plug ?

Recommended Posts

I was recently going through my owner’s manual and doing some winter tune up. Well I have run into a spark plug question and can’t find a direct answer from anyone yet. So maybe someone here can help me out.

I have a 2005 RMZ450 K5 owner’s service manual for my bike which is of course a 2005 RMZ450

On page 2-7 periodic maintenance it calls for an NKG CR8EIB-10

Spark plug gap : 0.9 – 1.0 mm (0.035 – 0.039 in)

Ok now if you look on page 19-6 servicing information it also calls for an NKG CR8EIB-10 same plug.

Spark plug gap 0.7 - 0.8 (0.028 – 0.031)

Spark performance over 8(0.3) at 1 atm.

My question is what is the correct spark plug gap for this bike and why does it call for two different gaps. I been told it could be a miss print. I could be wrong but I did notice that pg. 19-6 it states something about spark performance at sea level. Does this have anything to do with the different gaps? And if so why would they not mention this on pg. 2-7

These plugs have such a small center electrode and come pregapped from NGK at .040" that is where it should be run. They do this so tip doesn't get damaged or bent. There should be a nice cover protecting the tip when you get the plug. Hope this is helpful.
