2012 WR450 Starting woes

Did you have to change the plug for it to work?  Did the center wire that went to the original plug have to be swapped with one of the other wires?  I got the Chinese tool that looks like yours, but it never worked.

No the plug that came with it worked. I just wanted to make it right. The wires and pins outs are the same.

Thanks.  I'm not sure what is up with mine.  A few of us ordered them, and never got it to work.

Here's the real kicker. The box the dealerships FI tool was in had the original paperwork in it, instructions etc. One of the papers was a flyer for the service manager for the "YFM700R Raptor & XF50 scooter autoship tool shipment."

This special listed the price to the dealer at...wait for it...$65.25, normally $102.95 dealer price.  It was offered by K&L O.E. Division, which is a wholeseller so they do not sell to the general public. I'm wondering though, if you have a business (business license etc) could you setup an account with them and buy the FI tool?

I'll bet I could make it work.

Would this work?

2014 WRR-Totalled

2012 WR450F-Stolen

2012 WR450F-Third bikes the charm.

I believe this is the Chinese knock-off some people have. Should work. You'll want to get or make an adapter to go from 3 pin triangular connector to inline 3 pin connector.  Anyone else care to elaborate?

Looks kind of similar, but ours didn't come with the battery clip and I ordered the one with the inline plug.  I bought an AC/DC converter from radio shack, that was kind of spendy to hook up to their power input jack.  I think it would be a crap shoot if it works.  The Chinese one a bunch of us bought, seemed to only work for the 1st few people.

I am happy to report that my bike is starting much better when hot now. Went on a good ride this last weekend and it only failed to fire on the first try once.  Much better than before. My CO is set at 13 from a base of 0.

I just bought a FI tool...looking at using it w/o having to take to a dealer.

Set it at 8 and ride it. See if it helps. Play with it a few weeks. Then send it to me so I can adjust mine for next summer :p

do you know if you bought the chinese version of the tool, or the one from India, or Taiwan?  (Those last two are the ebay choices).

I bought one on ebay thru auction bidding...I got a new one for $85.  I'll post a pic when I get it in.  I am nor sure what version it is...it's currently enroute to my house.  The part number is YU-03182.

That's a *great* price, I've never seen them offered that cheap.  I hope it works out...

I'm assuming there is the $45 shipping charge?

I got my Yamaha tool for like $160 used.  Curious if you got the actual tool or one of the knock-offs, and then the question is.. does it work?

There were two new units that came up last week on ebay via auction.  I won one, and  the other one went for $80 w/ free shipping.  The other ones on there now are still on there and they are running double in buy it now price, like $155.  The do come up, just got to be on the look out.  We'll see how it works, but it looks legit.

Ok, I got my FI tool in the mail.  It looks legit (not a knock-off) w/ the description others have given.  Not bad for $85 shipped.  My 2014 has the same warm start issues...pain in the ass.  I will report back after I get the CO read then set.

Hi, here goes my first thread as well as my first post on here! Name is Matt. Been a reader for quite a while and have learned a ton from these forums.
Anyways, i'm 24, and have liked motocross bikes since I was 6, my uncle was an mx rider here in the northeastern ohio and shoot mainly all over ohio (greg urban, 803, rode hondas say something if you know him lol) but ever since I was a young gun i was in love with bikes but never had one of my own, just a 90cc dinli 2 stroke quad my gramps got me in mansfield on the farm when i was about 12, lol! That thing and that farm are long gone, they didnt pay taxes and ended up gettin screwed for it, lost everything, all the toys, boats, quads, golf carts, had to sell it and move to somewhere much more affordable. My family isnt the smartest but theyre pretty cool.
ANYWAYS. I am 24 now and just recently had the chance to grab a bike to work on, ive spent my live doing other things like skateboarding, going to school, working full time, moving in with a girl etc. So I just found a 1990 yz125 on offerup for 200 bucks. I was dead broke at the time paying court costs n whatnot but I pulled together 100 bucks and made a deal with the guy to pay him 50 a week for the rest, since I had practically nothing and had literally just started a new job. So he was down and we met up and I got the bike.
(QUESTION: Can i post any sort of htm image codes so I can post these pics throughought the thread? Cause if so im gonna edit the heck out of this thread and make it way more organized.)
I brought her home. The reason it was so cheap is because the crankshaft was seized. The piston is in good condition, the cyclinder as well, no scratching or chipping, leading me to believe the issue could be in the main crank bearing. The guy I bought it off of has been in close contact, i see him once a week or so and we talk bikes and about the parts i'll need and whatnot. So my next step is to grab my next paycheck, finish paying him and bring the engine back over, split it open with him, and see if its just the bearing or whole crank assembly. Either way, pretty stoked about the deal, and the piston and cylinder being in such great shape.
Im gonna attatch the pics of the bike and the engine! The cylinder head is taken off as well as the pipe and kickstart but here she is.
Any input is appreciated! This is my FIRST bike and if anyone has any pointers about working on 2 strokes this old, I would REALLY appreciate it!
      Thanks yall
Also if anyone notices anything that I am not saying, please do say something! Or if there is anything super critical to check. I plan om getting a manual when I find one and literally checking every single thing that can be loosened and tightened on it.
      Matt

I bought a 2002 YZ 250 and I wanted to move everything back to stock so I could jet it to my area, the PO moved the needle(N3EJ) clip up to the top position (leanest), so I lowered it to position 2 and the bike would bog between 1/4 and 1/2 open throttle, clip position 3 was even worse. There is a slight bog in clip position 1 but not so noticeable when warmed up.
Looking at the manual leaner needles seem to be half a clip each, so my question is should I jump over the next in line N3CJ and go to either N3EK or N3CK, which should allow clip position 2 to be used and be slightly leaner. Is this the way needles work or will the taper, diameter, etc change things to much.
      Thanks for any input

Have some damage on the outer / upper fork tubes on a '12 WR450F. New OEM replacements are pricey. Will any older YZ outer tubes work as a replacement? They are (more) plentiful on fleabay.
The forks will eventually be fit on a upper clamp of 54mm diameter. So tubes being 54 or 56mm top will both work fine.
      Thanks.
