Looking at the rusty bolt few posts earlier, that's probably why. In case the bolt rusts badly, it doesn't bind as bad as a bolt that is the same diameter all around.

Also it can pack grease and acts as a "fuse" in case you need to break it, I guess...

Makes sense. I might have ridden once without that bolt but thankfully it was light riding.. After the ride I inspected the bike because the whole vibrated so much but I would've never thought it would be engine mount bolt.

No. They look for conditions that favor their habitat. New ones will replace the dead.
