13 crf450r shock/fork

Recommended Posts

The shock is very similar to the 12 95 % the same..the fork is very different for example it has 21 face shims[ before the tapered portion ] on the base valve piston & the clicker needle orfice is very restricked.. while the mid is a 2 piece piston with strange looking stacks just looking at them. The shims in the base valve are 8mm id & the mid are even larger don't recall the id of those at the moment .another thing I thought strange was with the larger cartridge you would have large pistons with large shims. The PSF has smaller face shims than the fork on the 12.

I was actually surprised there is not more trick stuff inside just a larger cartridge with way different shims stacks , no mainspring & a very long top out spring. The seal at first glance looks the same but it is slightly different that the 12 seal.

I would post the stacks but i dont have access to my notes at the moment.. the forks are very easy to work on once apart. dont forget to let the air out first.

I made 2 mods to the forks while waiting for FC to get there testing done .I like to do my own suspension work I just dont have the time.

I did post the shock compression stack if you do a search. I have the fork base valve stacks, I will try to get them up tomorrow if I remember. I think the suspension settings are decent for stock, still stiff in my opinion though.

that looks like a good listing, only thing I would have to add is that the rebound on the base valve is no longer a check plate that is spring loaded. There is somewhat of a stack, I believe it was something like (4)24.1, I will look later but I'm pretty certain they were 24mm in diameter and there were 3 or 4 of them, might be off on the thickness

From what I can see posted on TT and all the parts are the same minus the mid shim stack, the crf has about .2 more float than the kawi.

Why did they go to this type of valve? If you run this valve on Restackor it produces quite a bit more high speed dampening when compared to previous kyb mid's. I never liked this valve when it was on the 03/04 yz's.
