Bike deserves 5 atars because it is a mad machine. This thing "will rip your lungs out Jim". It is just bad fast and handles like a dream on a mildly twisty jeep road. Little slower when its tight or on open straightaways. Thats the MX transmission version of course so that is expected. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is that I spent the night out on it two weeks ago because it plain and simple did not have the technical riding setup I expected. I rode down a hellhole that I did not realize this bike would struggle so much coming back up. I had to fight it for three hours to get back up the terrain. This is minor and I could choose to set it up closer to my preferences by one or all of the following. BIGGER FUEL TANK, HEAVIER FLYWHEEL, LOWER FINAL DRIVE, TRIALS REAR TIRE. Short of this bike missing my expectations as a good technical bike. This has high speed semi technical written all over it and im sure trophy's have and will continue to prove that. If you want a technical bike, you need to look at the XC-W version. Or the Ktm Freeride. Or go back in history as I have chosen to do and find a 90's model Yamaha WR250Z. Either way you'll be happy. PS I have made a street legal conversion on this bike. Basic KTM headlight is not enough light for high speed. It okay for tight stuff though. Has a blind spot at 50' feet that proves deadly on a grromed road.

Its 20 years old and barely seen dirt in its life. After riding it, I prefer it to my new 2014 KTM 300XC. For trail riding, it's set up better. Though not as snappy in the midrange. Came with a 45w stator. Heavy(er than stock, which is heavier stock than the same model year yz.
