Picked up the 1989 XR250R for $1100.
It was advertised to have 200km's old: Clutch plates, reco head, and 165cc big bore kit with 10.0:1 comp.
Literally, did not touch it, just checked the oil levels and took it down to Broad Meadows MX track for a day with a mate and had no issues whatsoever. The old XR ran like a champ!
The engine is peppy, starts well, runs strong, shifts well, nice clutch but overall, the bike was tired. Mashed kick starter, kickstand & chain cover, rooted chain slider and slipper, sprockets & chain, degraded front disk, pads and brake fluid, broken gear selector lever rtn spring, and dodgy twisted together wiring here and there. Very leaky RH shock and split shock boots.
I've replaced the kickstarter with new OEM, welded back and straightened up the mashed up kickstand, straightened up the chain cover, fitted new JT (stock) sprockets and DID chain, Fitted new front wave disk and ceramic carbon pads, bled out the old brake fluid with Repsol Dot 4, soldered and heat shrink dodgy wiring, $12 Seal Mate fixed the leaky RH shock, topped up shocks with Motul 5w shock oil and fitted 6" vintage Shock SOX.
Still waiting for new shifter rtn spring, chain slider and slipper.
Can't wait to go for another ride......
