The 2022 Beta 300RR Race Edition is by far the best dirtbike I've ever owned. I absolutely love this thing. It has a magic motor, slick shifting gearbox with very usable gearing, the most amazing clutch I've ever laid a finger on, powerful brakes, impeccable geometry, electric start and excellent suspension components.
This bike is multi-dimensional. You can ride hard enduro, race hare scrambles or even compete on the motocross track with nothing more than mounting appropriate tires and a few setup tweaks. The motor has tons of low end grunt with the smoothest power delivery you're likely to find anywhere, making it a joy and pleasure when the trails are super gnarly. I'm not a trials rider, but I can definitely see the Beta trials heritage in the character of this motor. It can deliver plenty of punch off the bottom if that's what's needed. Twist the throttle open, row through the gears and the 300 Beta will blast down the trail and accelerate on par with a CR500, while at the same time being about the quietest bike I've ever been on. You can also make significant changes in the character of the power delivery with power valve tuning. There's just so much to love here. It also has amazing hill climbing prowess. You can actually feel the difference in the two power maps on this bike. They are both useful.
The diaphragm clutch is incredible with a super light one-finger pull and an engagement that is smooth and predictable. By far the best clutch on any dirtbike I've ever ridden. This bike has helped me bring my throttle and clutch control to a whole new level.
Cornering behavior is neutral and inspires confidence. The KYB fork works pretty dang good as delivered and has potential for improvements that can put it on par with anything else out there. The Sachs shock has worked well for me with no issues. The bike always feels solid, well planted, stable and hooks up quite well. It's extremely well mannered.
If you're not used to brakes with the kind of power that these have it can be a little unsettling at first. I was locking up the front quite a bit, and had an episode on hard pack covered with loose marbles where it spit me off onto my head in an instant. Moving the brake lever in closer to the handlebar solved that problem quite nicely and I haven't had a problem with it since. They are incredibly powerful one-finger brakes. When you get on an 80s era dirtbike with Fred Flintstone double leading shoe drum brakes for comparison you really appreciate how well these work. They are superior to brakes on any modern era bikes I've ridden as well.
I'm getting pretty decent fuel range with this bike. I may opt for a larger tank in the future. That's a typical upgrade for me. I installed a Spanish Fly turbine core spark arrestor into the stock silencer to make it USFS legal. That's an arrangement I'm very happy with. It didn't seem to change the sound levels or power characteristics at all. Not that I could notice.
The Metzeler Six Days tires that came stock on this bike are good all-around soft compound tires. They work real good on slimy roots, rocks and hard pack, not so much in sand or mud. I've installed Michelin UHD inner tubes and the Metzelers will get used until they are gone. I have M5BEVOs coming.
I put a Tusk aluminum pipe guard on and Enduro Engineering wrap-around handguards. I've installed BulletProof radiator guards and a Moose Racing rear disc guard. I've been swapping back and forth between the 14t and 13t countershaft sprockets and they each have their place.
Usually with any bike I buy I can find plenty of things I don't like or things I wish the manufacturer could have done better or more to my liking. Honestly, with this Beta 300RR other than it occasionally feeling a bit too tall, I can't find anything about it to complain about. It is a pure pleasure and a joy. I absolutely love it.
