Still pretty early to tell as I just purchased the bike in July 2020. Previous owner let the bike go to hell, so still in the process of bringing the maintenance up to date and diagnosing a serious heat & noise issue in the motor. First impressions are that the power is good, but not overwhelming thankfully. Bike tends to run hot, especially in tight wooded trails but apparently this is common for the RFS motors. Bike has been converted for street use but it has a lot of vibrations on pavement so it's not the most comfortable. If I continue to ride it on the street, it will need a few street oriented modifications such as a steering dampener and stabilizer, SM wheels & tires, and taller gearing. This one is equipped with a Rekluse auto clutch, which I highly recommend for any serious off road rider as it makes the bike easier to control through tight sections. I hope to add the Rekluse left hand hydraulic brake kit as well for even more control off road. This example is probably a poor representation of the model; however, it seems to do everything that I want from a bike so I hope the engine issue doesn't become serious and that I can salvage this legendary bike and bring it back to life.

Picked up this 690sm for a good price. I was on the fence between this bike and a 690 Enduro. I found the Supermoto first so now I'm converting it to an Enduro... sort of.
I replaced the shorter forks with a set from a KTM 450exc. New springs for the extra weight and sub/remote tanks. The rear shock is from a KTM 85sx. It technically doesn't fit. I had to notch and fill the frame a little at one down tube to make room for the piggyback reservoir.
The 85sx shock is about a half inch longer then the original 690 shock. I needed a 80+ kilo spring for my weight. The original is only 65 kilos. I sourced an 82-100 spring from a KTM 660 quad. It came as a set with a 100-55 helper coil. I decided to try running both for the dual rate experience. I've put several hundred miles on that setup and I love it. Very minimal preload.
Added ProTaper bars and a Scotts damper. Can't live without that.
Previous owner had a Corbin seat built for it. Also love that.
Upgraded to a Leo Vince exhaust and did a cone filter mod. It's loud now and required a little remap to keep the ECM content.
I was able to keep the original radial caliper with an adapter. The 450exc's smaller axial caliper wasn't able to slow the bike as well as I wanted on the street. Also had to add a traditional dirt bike front brake line with guides due to the taller forks.

I love this Bike. Still not many improvements with the 2020 version, Lots of guys coming over to the 350 EXC-F bike from the 500's.
    Light, powerful, nimble and stable.

Bike has tons of power, just wish it didn’t have so many finicky issues. Nothing too major just not perfect.

Solid bike in everything besides the engine. Mine was really lacking all through the rev range. Disappointed so I sold it. Really great handling and suspension though.

Replaced everything bolt on imaginable. All Bearings, fork seals, Clutch Plates, rekluse clutch, master cylinders, brake pads, filters, levers, pegs, pedals, pro taper bars and grips, acerbis wrap around hand guards, warp9 rear wheel, desert tank, kickstand, and brand new FMF turbine powercore 2 silencer with fatty pipe. Rebuilt the top end at 126 hours, and 2 hours into the first ride the engine seized. Does not run, needs bottom end rebuild and most likely top end due to shrapnel. Once rebuilt the bike is fully restored. Bought for 1,600 and put at least 1,800 into it.
