    I said it has better throttle response and power delivery than the KTM. The KTM definitely makes more power and weighs more than twice as much. The light weight and lower power of the Sur-ron probably helped make the throttle feel so responsive and controllable but the designers get some credit too.

    Yeah, I haven't gone from 0-100% but I'd believe 3 hours. I'm usually going from 20-40 up to 60-70. Then just before I ride I charge it up to 90.

    I don't have any photos but I haven't changed anything cosmetic except removing the frame stickers. At 175lbs the stock rear suspension feels okay for technical trail riding with only some adjusting. The fork came with a much too soft "medium" spring and no oil, only grease in the chassis. I swapped to a firm spring and added 20cc and 50cc to the legs for better lubrication and to take up some air volume. It's still a little soft but okay for trail riding. I took it to the motocross track yesterday and had a blast on the kid's track but realized the suspension is too soft for jumping. I'll try to get an extra firm spring for the fork and add some shims to the HSC or put thicker oil in the damper. I'll replace the rear 450 spring with a 500. The other limitation is the tires. A larger diameter and slightly greater width would give more stability at speed over rocks, more traction on technical climbs, and track through soft berms better. I'm looking for slightly bigger tires to mount on the stock rims that won't add too much weight. The power delivery and overall power are great, more than needed for my weight and enough to quickly get going faster than needed. I'm going to downgear the sprocket from a 48 to 52 for snappier response at low speeds and because I don't need the current 47mph top speed. If I add bigger tires I'll switch to a 54 or 55t sprocket. Range has been plenty for me. I did a 34 mile trail ride and got home with 12% battery. After and hour and a half of playing at the track I rode steep technical Jeep roads 2400ft up the mountain behind my house to watch sunset and still had 14% left. Besides the wheels/tires and suspension my only other complaint is I thought I felt some flex from the swingarm when pushing hard at the track. I think the chassis is fine for mellow riding but it's not designed for going hard. If the motor was less powerful and I weighed sub 150lbs I wouldn't notice the shortcomings of the chassis.

    I've had the bike a day now and have ridden highways, jeep roads, singletrack, and a skate park. I have very few nits to pick. It actually works and feels exactly how I wanted. First the nits: -The fork spring is too soft for anyone and the fork needs more HSC for anyone who rides fast or jumps. I have a stiffer spring on the way and might replace the damper cartridge oil with 1 step thicker. -The brakes came with organic pads. It really needs metal pads for the power and heat capacity. It uses very common Shimano Saint pads so I'll get some. The good: -The throttle response of the Model X and power delivery are the best I've ever felt. Better than the KTM Freeride E. I feel no need to install the lower gearing kit I have. -The rear suspension seems good with only some adjusting. -The fit and handling are what I expected. If you have a new large or XL enduro MTB this will fit the same with the pegs in the rear position. -The tires and wheels are adequately stable and grippy, I wasn't sure if they'd feel too small.

    Wow, dirt biking sure attracts the rednecks. It's weird because the actual activity is so similar to DH MTB but the demographic it attracts is so different. My input is to do the swap both ways and end up with a 500cc Alta and electric Honda. Then when you're done posting photos of them on the internet go ride a KTM 300 and Freeride E.

    I heard back from RST. The stiffer fork spring is $50 so I'm getting it. Since the X Model comes with a firmer shock spring it should come with this firmer fork spring stock. In every video of these bikes you can see that the suspension is too soft so it was no surprise when they included a firmer shock spring on the upgraded bike.

Luna Cycle is now the US importer for Sur-Ron and has two models, the $3,890 MX and the $4,450 Model X. The MX is the same as the bike Sur-Ron sells from China. The Model X has a better motor controller, stiffer shock spring, nicer handlebar and grips, and o-ring chain. My friend and I just ordered a couple Model Xs and should have them on Maui in a couple weeks. We also got the down-geared sprocket kits to try out, though they may not be needed with the more powerful motor controller. I'm probably gonna want a stiffer fork spring so I emailed RST about availability but haven't heard back yet. I'll likely remove the lights, plate holder, and kickstand but keep the rest stock. I'll post again after building it up and getting a couple rides in.

    Due to varying on riding style and terrain and ingrained biases I'm not surprised you can find people who will hate on 2T KTMs. But out in the middle of nowhere, on techy trails high in the mountains I can't remember the last time I saw anything else. I'd say the reviews of those riders are unanimous.

    You'd have loved a KTM XC200, 250, or 300. I had a WR250f, then bought a KTM 300XC. SO much better in every way for woods riding. The power is just as smooth and usable right off idle but in the top half of the throttle it's WAY more powerful which is fun when the terrain opens up. What really makes it better for trails though is the lighter feel and lack of engine braking. No more balancing between acceleration and deceleration when you've already gotten up to 25mph and the trail isn't gonna let you go any faster. I find this engine character results in a much smoother feeling and less tiring ride. My whole crew used to ride 4 stroke WRs and CRF-Xs. Since I got the KTM and they've tried it one at a time they've all switched over to KTM 300s. At this altitude (8,000-12,000ft) we like the 300 but a few of us think we'd prefer the even lighter, narrower 200 if we lived below 6,000ft.

    Exactly. The price is reasonable for a well used, kinda old race bike that probably needs major work soon. Also, notice it says something about moving so he probably needs to sell it quick. Honestly, regardless of description I wouldn't pay more than that for a bike that looks like it was raced for years.

    I don't see anything about that ad that says stolen. Maybe the title thing but that depends on the state. I bought my bike new in CO and I don't think I have a title.
  13. The first bike that will "save offroad" will be one that doesn't do the things that get trails closed. It will be quiet, light, come with tires designed to grip without tearing into the ground (like a trials tire), and have a drive system that makes it easy to keep the tire hooked up (like an auto clutch or electric drive). Motocross bikes and tires and ham-fisted clutch and throttle work are getting trails closed. I honestly think the only way to save motorized singletrack riding is to create regulations similar to the requirement for a spark arrestor. Tires must be "trail approved", exhaust must be under a sound limit, and bike weight and/or displacement/power output regulated to minimize impact. These regulations will have to come from inside the industry and sport or the opposition will simply have all motors banned from public trails. I know there's plenty of people on here who hate the idea of regulation and hate being told how to ride their bike or how loud it can be but if that's your feeling, stick to private tracks. If you want to ride the sprawling trail networks on public land you gotta show that you aren't a detriment to the trails or other users. The current movement in my area is to ban dirtbikes from all the trails and then build a trail network in one area for motorized use. Some riders might be happy with the ability to go throttle crazy on trails with no other user groups but I got into dirtbiking to explore huge expanses, see sights, and get way out there. I have no interest in ripping lap after lap in a limited area. I'm not gonna bother coming back on here to respond to the criticisms of my position but check back in 10 years and let me know how motocross bikes in the woods panned out. P.S. Honda is a motocross bike manufacturer and knows or cares little about singletrack riding. They will be the last ones to "save offroad".
  14. I got a few lines through the first post and realized you must be talking about 4strokes. Why would anyone choose any 4stroke over a KTM 200 or 300 2stroke for offroad riding or racing? My 2010 300 is going strong and problem free (literally not a single problem) after 200 hours. I'll replace the rings sometime soon.

    X-BUSHING

    I love mine. At first I tried it in the lowest setting. I slid my forks up till the rebound knobs just barely cleared the handlebar and my 90/100 tire just barely cleared the fender at bottom-out. The low feel was great for twisty trails but the headtube angle was too slack for some situations. I put the X-bushing in the middle setting and the geo was perfect. It's stayed there since. To be clear the rear tire was clearing the fender even in the lowest setting with my fairly tall Pirelli MT43 trials tire so it's perfectly usable with no need to adjust your suspension. The limiting factor is how low you can get the fork without tire/fender contact unless you have the travel limited. This puts your headtube angle adjustment in a pretty slack range which may work for some riders but was too slack for me.
