    Would you replace this cylinder?

Also is this a stock bore piston?

Sorry the photos don’t show that much. Would you replace this cylinder or just a new piston and rings? No significant scoring or pitting. Not sure what the stock cross hatch should look like but there isn't much left showing. I’m assuming this is a nikasil coated cylinder? Thanks.

!! Intake valve screw adjuster and locknut missing

Took it apart and found them. Laying in cam chain tunnels and fell out when disassembled. Please see related cylinder question.

!! Intake valve screw adjuster and locknut missing

BTW who makes a basic good top end kit for that bike? I don’t need top quality, high compression or anything like that. It’s just gonna be a kids run about. I see all kinds of choices.

!! Intake valve screw adjuster and locknut missing

Surprisingly the air filter was in place, in good condition and well oiled. Obviously someone loosened the adjuster for maintenance. I’m thinking somebody at some point maintained it but it was hammered.

!! Intake valve screw adjuster and locknut missing

Anyone? I’m new to the TTR but not new to bikes.
  7. Hi all, just bought an ‘02 TTR125 for my kids to ride. Considering it’s age and likely neglect it’s in pretty decent shape. It runs ok aside from constant blue smoke and ticking that I assumed were neglected valve adjustments. I figured it would need a top end for sure. When I took off the intake valve inspection cap I found a bare rocker end with no adjuster rod or locknut in place. I stuck a pencil magnet in the recesses that I couldn’t see but no luck. I haven’t taken it apart yet. What can I expect to find? I guessing the loose parts could have worked their way down through the timing chain tunnel into the case. I’m just surprised that the adjuster itself was able to loosen all of the way and fall out with the cap still in place. Thoughts?

Trying to decipher WP shock spring rating

Found it in the manual thanks. Looks like I need a 71-90/260. I will assume my fork springs are stock so I’ll need 4.0 N/mm also. Appreciate the guidance.

Trying to decipher WP shock spring rating

And if it’s too soft how do I choose a progressive range for my weight. 49 yo just getting back into riding after a long hiatus and will primarily be riding SW PA woods. Thanks.
  10. Can somebody point me in the right direction to determine if my ‘03 200exc WP PDS shock spring 66 86/260 is too soft. From what I’m reading it seems to be a progressive rate spring 66 kg to 86 kg and 260 mm free length right. I’m 195 pounds without gear and it seems to be too soft. There are no markings on my fork spring and I’m thinking they are the stock original springs. Thanks.
  11. Well considering mine were already greased when I bought it I’m guessing the Teflon is already toast. I’m thinking I might as well re-grease and reinstall.
  12. And these same opinions pretty much what I’ve seen when I searched. The weld the subframe group, the don’t bother they all do that from new/doesn’t matter group and finally the don’t weld it you’ll fatigue the metal group. That third group seemed to be split evenly in get a new subframe/don’t bother. Without trying to ignite a bullshit firestorm of controversy I have to say this kind of quality control isn’t impressing me even if it is a near 16 year old otherwise very clean bike. It’s a little disturbing that a few people reported in old posts that they bought new bikes with subframe cracks.
  13. New KTM owner taking my ‘03 200 EXC apart for swingarm greasing. Found cracks in the subframe mounting areas at all 4 mounting bolt holes. On the top mounts only the outer side of the square tubing is cracked. On the lower mounts both the inside and outside is cracked. Apparently from reading old posts this is very common. Should I try to have it welded or leave it alone? Also, my manual said not to grease the PDS pivot mounts due to the Teflon coating but my bolts came out greased. Regrease and re-install?
  14. Oh I don’t think that believe me. Training and flexibility are your best protection but it will never be back to full strength again. Braces do help though I think. If I am completely wrong though let me know. I had a torn ACL, MCL and lateral meniscus. You know it’s bad when they have a special name for it (“the unhappy triad”) and it felt like my lower leg was disconnected from my upper leg until the swelling hit and locked it up. I have been under the assumption that knee braces would offer some protection and generally reduce the severity of an injury if it occurs. Maybe there is a PT looking at this who can comment?
