    Raceway park practice track

take a read below of my recent rant from a previous post. at least i'm not alone... I consider myself one of the lifer-locals at etown since 2000. both the practice track and the racing side of it. we rode about 2-3 times per week. spent a ton of money there and it wasn't even a consideration. My group of buddies consists of a large amount of 30 plus & 40 plus A+B racers and riders collectively. stepping back now, we have seen a slow steady decline since approx. the end of 2008. years ago, we couldnt wait to get there on a wed, fri. or sat at opening. we couldnt get our gear on fast enough to get out there. like children on xmas morning. us older guys met up with our friends as well as our inner child and enjoyed the moment every week. memories i'll take with me forever. track was groomed perfect and Carl would always throw in a surprise change once in a while. Thank you Carl for trying. great times. race track was always awesome on race day as well, thanks to Zupko and Kessler. IMO since the beginning of 2009, track prep by the staff, over watering by the unskilled hired help caused the riding conditions to deteriorate considerably from the golden years of the past. no longer was there a fresh groom upon opening. i seem to recall landing in the same erosion holes on jump landings in august, that i was hitting back in May. no effort or thought from the RP staff or mgmt. just thanks for the 40 bucks. track lost its fun flow and also was a bit dangerous (not due to its technicality) but to the extreme watering and complete disregard for basic track care. it really felt like i was illegal pit riding somewhere. So, in 2010 I reluctantly decided to take a break (rode only about 10x & raced once) and get a jet ski again and enjoy the water. glad i did. i needed the break. riding in 09 was not fun at all. we showed up and rode out of a zombie-like habit in hopes that it will be good. just hoping the conditions were acceptable just once in a while. not my way of enjoying a sat. with friends. all we did was bitch and moan to each other in the pits. now hearing this news for fridays. just another reason to push me to the full time quitting side. what else can happen? NJ motocross is getting worse and worse. NY has their issuses as well with Ace being shutdown. props to Blue Diamond for giving it their all. its just too long to drive to just ride a dirtbike for me. i live 15 min. from the lake and its FREE and no flagger telling me to get off. found a lot of extra $$$ in my pocket in 2010. bought a surfboard now and will be surfing and jet skiing. sorry for the rant, i am not a hater. in fact, i am deeply saddened. i just remember when all was good at etown and wished it would return again....so sad... anyone like to comment?

Observation: Lack of neck braces at A1

my bad. i was thinking C5 and then realized it was T5 after i posted correct- neck brace is protection for the cervicals only. i guess a neck brace is sort of like flood insurance for a house on top of a hill. you just never know. its a personal choice.

Observation: Lack of neck braces at A1

Will Hahn just suffered a T5 compression fracture at A1 during the 1st practice session. question is, Was he wearing a Leatt?

    2010 race sag settings

was running upwards of 115mm without the link to get the bike more neutral feeling. forks are set flush with triple clamp. then changed to RG3 linkage and now running 105mm. hope that helps...

    MXA Test of 2010 CRF250R

i rode one today along with my brand new 08 with an 09 head. the carbed bike has more hit and lights up quicker. no question. but the 10 is no slouch either. it just feels different regarding its power delivery. the 20 feels like that smooooooooth power feel of the 04 model, but with more gusto and no bog at all like the 06-09. the 10 handles great i felt. i was at a small supercross style track. the 10 steers really well. forks are soft but the overall action kills the 08-09 forks. ran 112mm sag to get the chassis to feel somewhat neutral. havent had it on a 4th gear tapped bumpy straight yet. i could ride or race either one. kinda like having an ice cream sundae. pick your toppings. they both get the job done. one thing i must add... i went back to my 08 to pull the forks up to try to get that nice scalpel sharp turning feeling of the 10. by the way, i highly disliked the 09 crf450 with its radical geometry changes. i kept my 08 crf450 instead. but i think these changes will work for some reason on the 250.

    Exhaust valves ***?

remove the spark plug first. that way you can move the motor by hand. line up the timing marks on the cam gear. make sure the cam lobes are facing back. hint...if your are staring directly at the cam gear at eye level and the timing marks are lined up with the head, if the cam lobes are facing back (approx. 2 o' clock)that will be your TDC. you'll be able to feel free play in the rocker arm. measure away.

    Exhaust valves ***?

no. the high ends of the cam lobes should be facing the back towards the carb. i think you are about 180 degees off.

2010 owners, Any stink bug issues?

mxengineer4, quick question and opinion if you dont mind. my friends wife is probably going to get one soon. my friend would like to know if this new 2010 can pull 3rd gear out of the slower corners without clutching. is the bottom end roll on in third gear good enough as compared to an 06? his wife is not a very aggressive rider. not a revver at all. she needs solid bottom end to function around a track. she likes to put it in 3rd and leave it. she is coming off a 2006 crf250 with a tokyo mods carb and rekluse clutch. thanks for your input.
  15. you can try this. run the fork height flush with the triple clamps. run sag at approx. 105 mm. you'll probably end up with a lot of free sag now since you only weigh 130 lbs. also and important, turn the hi-speed compression out 2.5-2.75 turns out (left) from closed. its the 14mm nut that is on the outside of the rear comp. screw. this will help lower the rear while in motion.... give it a try. it might be a good enough band-aid until you get it sprung correctly.
