2012 wr450f is revealed! With fi!

questions answered: the old 450 motor? have a look at the YFZ450 Quad. then you will understand.. the yz 250 frame? its the same In all fairness, this bike is a cleverly assembled parts bin model that given the world economic circumstances and Yamaha's own financial position, i applaud Yamaha for making the effort to bring us a new WR. Maybe its a great bike, maybe not? Maurice: things to Consider regarding Wrs and racing... WRs have won Dakars, GNCCs, WORCS, WEC championships.. they are not bad race bikes they just might need a little more work than the KTMs The top racing guys here in South Africa For example, the current offroad champion rides a 2011 YZ450f, with a WR gearbox, and a long range tank... no other changes to his YZ. And he won almost every race this year and last year on it. He usesa YZ 250 2smoke with a Wr gearbox for enduro's (more technical) races. Reason for not using the old wr? plain and simple the suspension was not up to the task, and changing the forks cost more than modding a YZ to do offroad races. For the weekend racer, like myself i prefer having WR reliability, vs the dreaded KTM 450 motor... which when it blows up you will cry when i comes to reapir time. all i did to make my bike race ready... new springs valving.. ali skid plates, and disc guards, and she was ready.... Which brings me to another point regarding 450s in general.. Most of us mortals, will never have the skill, or capability to ride these monsters they way they should be ridden, or get to the limit of the bikes performance capabilities. We see the guys on TV do this... but there is a differnce between you and I and Cyril Despres or Jonah Street. Then again, rider skill comes into play. I compete in XC races down here, and often 250fs or 300 2smokes are the race winners. the differences in performance between the orange, blue, yellow, red and green 450s are minor... racing wize, the KTM might have an upper hand when it comes to suspension, but then again Honda has a steering damper.. each unto his own... you can race anything.. your ability is what counts just to prove a point... i have a friend, that beat my ass in a race on his CRf230..

    Wolverine 450 Help

thanks! we have a 4x4 Quad class down here in South Africa on our offroad races, I want to prove point that you dont need a 800cc Vtwin $$$$$$ Renegade which frame bends and is %%% to maintain to win in this class. Anyone know of a steering damper that will fit?

  10. Losing weight on anybike especially the WR is a losing battle firstly getting rid of Unsprung Weight should be priority number 1 1.Light Hubs 2.Lighter Rims 3.Titanium Axles 4.Lighter Discs Then Battery (makes no sense, why i bought the wr.. nothing worse than trying to kickstart a bike when you are climing in rocks or mud... Head light Small Alimunim bits Boil Bottle? makes no sense bike will boil Kickstand Lighter pegs Exhaust wiring AIS Airbox snorkel Switch gear on bars Speedo (I like my speedo) MX chain (non o ring) Lighter Sprockets... (dont last as long) Now, if you keen on racing you need to add... 1.Ali Skid plate' 2.Ali Front and rear disc guards 3.Bar risers 4.Steering Damper 5.Hand Guards 6.HEavier springs - weight of rider 7.Frame Guards 8.Rear Brake Master cylinder guard 9.braided brake hoses 10.Long range tank if you need one 11.Slime in tyres 12.Enduro Tubes or Tubliss system 13.Radiator Braces 14.Bigger Radiators 15.Case saver, and carbon fiber front spoket gaurd 16.GYRT plastic chain Guide.. You might as well by a YZ and convert the gearbox to a WR one... cheap conversion... Many of the top riders here in South Africa do that... take a YZ, since the forks are better.... add the wr gearbox, add a boil bottle and protection and voila.. done.. So if you want to race, and you dont want to battle too much with weight loss, and spending huge to get your suspension right... a YZ is probably a better option, however you will have more maintenance costs... Motor especially If you are a weekend warrior, and race for fun... a WR is a better bet. and you have e-start, if you are prone to stalling..

    what caused this engine failure?

from another qaud site: "04 and 05's used a flat circlip too hold the gudgeon pin in place, 06 and onwards use a round circlip the reason is that apparently the gudgeon pin would push againest the flat circlip in the older models and eventually unseat the circlip, eventually the gudgeon pin would move out of place and cause this sort of damage. the round circlip in the newer models is actually forced deeper into the retaining grove when pressure is applied too it. You are lucky your conrod didnt do more damage."
