  1. Veltex and Ben PM's sent. Like I said I'm not set on any one tank. I can't find anyone around here with a WR or YZ with an oversized tank to check out so I'm just basing my decision on what I can read here. Ben do you notice the tank being any wider? Thanks for the info.
  2. All good info. Veltex, congrats on the 07 and I hear you on the Unabiker braces they are almost bulletproof. Will the 05 tank fit on an 03? PM me and let me know your time frame.
  3. I'm going to get desert tank, 3 to 4 gal., on my 2003 WR 250F and want to know if anyone has had any clearance problems with the Unabiker radiator guards/braces. I'm leaning toward the Zipty/IMS tank but I haven't totally made my mind up. Any info on your set-ups with the Unabiker guards would be great. Thanks.

    Where in Utah are you? If you ask in the Rocky Mountains forum http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=59 you could get some recomendations on mechanics or might make a new friend who can show you some stuff. I know there are alot of people from the Wasatch Front on this site. Like 250Thumpher said a pen and paper are your friend and a digital camera.

    I and many many others cured the bog it sounds like you're having by changing the leak jet to a #40.   6. Thats good info. I guess I figured they were the same with different part numbers beacuse the WR has the YZ ignition map that you can switch to with the gray wire which I've done.
  7. If I hold the throttle steady at 1/3 to 1/2, like when I'm doing 40 through town. I get a really bad misfire. I have tried all kinds of jetting set-ups and with no improvement. Each time I try a new one I try it with the TPS plugged in and without. The out come has been the same where the misfire is gone when the TPS is unplugged. The misfire feels like I'm out of gas. It feels like you're not going to make it home. I might have found an 04 YZ250 to swap CDIs with just to confirm it's the ignition map. RJ

  10. Well I've tried a few more jetting combos today and still i get a very noticable and disturbing missfire at 1/3 throttle. I also through the stock baffel back in the exhaust and took it for a spin just to see what the missfire felt like before I changed the exhaust and it was there just less noticable. I also tested the TPS as per the manual and it looks ok. The only thing that makes it better is unpluging the tps. I think this establishes that my problem is in the CDI and it's 3D ignition map. I'm out of ideas.
  11. I hope I can at least mask it through jetting. I found your post last night Barton on the 42 PJ and it gave me hope, just got back from the shop with one of those and a 182 MJ. I must have read 50+ pages of talk about 03 having bad CDIs with only 2 or 3 with solutions other than getting an aftermarket ignition or just ride it WFO. Yesterday I tried a jump from a 180 to 185 and that too much. This was just 1 of 5 different combos. The only thing that made any real difference to unplug the TPS. I'm now in the process of going back to a 180 and changing the PJ. Let you know how it turns out and would still appreciate any more suggestions.
  12. Sorry to bring up an old issue but I have been searching all night and can't find an answer. The 03 had a CDI that the ignition map had an overlap, which caused a misfire when holding steady throttle between 1/4 and 1/2 throttle. Was this ever resolved or was an aftermarket ignition the only solution? Is the Vortex 10x the only option or are there others?
  13. Thanks Eddie for suggesting the CDI could be the problem, I never would thought of the CDI. After searching through countless posts for the better part of the afternoon and night that had this same problem with the 03 CDI I don't think jetting will fix it. I still haven't found if there was ever a solution to the faulty CDI map. As for the idle speed I'm going to adjust the high idle down with the idle speed adjustment to 1900 RPM at 2 turns out on the fuel screw, would this be correct as long as the idle speed knob is between 3/4 and 2 turns out?
  14. So I rode it with the TPS unhooked and there was a difference but I still had some missing, to a lesser degree. Unhooking the TPS, did this change the ignition curve of the CDI? I found an answer to this question.
  15. It's time for the experts. My bike feels like it is missing or running out of fuel at between 1/4 and 5/8s throttle. The condition started when I opened up the air box with 6 UNI filters and installed a Pro Moto Billet exhaust tip. This happens only when I'm riding it, not repeatable in the garage. I have a tach on the bike and it shows 6000 to 8000 RPM. The missing goes away above 8000. The exhaust tip is almost clean when I wipe my finger on the inside. Altitude: 2000 to 4000 and the temp is 50-60F. Bike: 2003 WR250F The bike ran good when the set up was the following: Timing: WR Main jet: 180 Pilot Jet: Stock 40 Fuel screw (turns out): 2 Needle model/Clip position: JD Blue 4th from top Airbox lid (on or off): Snorkel removed Pipe: Stock Other mods: YZ Throttle Stop Screw, Gray Wire, #40 Leak Jet, Snorkel Removed The Set-Up now: Timing: WR Main jet: 180 Pilot Jet: Stock 40 Fuel screw (turns out): 2 Needle model/Clip position: JD Blue 5th from top Airbox lid (on or off):On, Snorkel removed, 6 Uni Filters Pipe: Stock with PMB Tip Other mods: YZ Throttle Stop Screw, Gray Wire, #40 Leak Jet, Snorkel Removed I figured it must be a lean condition that I'm experiencing so I moved the needle clip down from 4 to 5 and rode it again. The problem is still there with no noticeable difference. Now that I have a tach I rechecked the fuel screw per the TT Jetting Guide for the 250F and found the following: 1 and 1/2 turns out: 2500 RPM 2 turns out:2500 RPM 3 turns out: 2200 RPM 3 and 1/2 turns out: 1900 RPM I realize this is high, where do I go now?
