Intermediate Weekend Rides - LA Area - Ongoing

Hey all, just thought I would touch base. I just moved down in the Lancaster area and will be working around here for a few months. Would be cool if I got a chance to tag along with some folks that know the riding areas, grew up riding mountainous single track but any time on the seat sounds like a great time. I'm an average rider, not super fast by any means but you don't have to worry about if I will make it. A little fat and out of shape from having a slow winter. Also some info on how to go about getting ORV tabs would be appreciated! Kevin

What did you do to your YZ450FX today?

I have 4 rides on it already, very happy with it. My dad has a '16 WR450 with basically same set up as my dirt FX on an older kit I had ridden before I made the purchase. We took it and a '14 YZ450f out that I borrowed to try snowbiking for the first time and I personally preferred the WR setup. I personally like the wide ratio better for the snowbike, and the electric start is absolutely a must have in the snow.
  3. Ok, so the trailer doesn't actually haul the bike to the trails... It goes in back of the truck for that. But I work on the road and live in the trailer, and I have to have the bikes wherever I go so I'm gonna count it. 2015 voltage 3970 & 2016 F250

What did you do to your YZ450FX today?

I introduced one to the other yesterday. Bike on left is my first '16 450FX purchased in '16 when they came out. List of mods/add-ons include- FMF Q4 slip-on, 2.5 IMS tank, gutz racing seat foam/cover, EE radiator guards/braces, works skid plate, trail Tech's Voyager, GYTR rad. Fan, factory connection suspension, acerbis hand guards, bar raisers. Bike on the right is my second '16 450fx I picked up new from a dealer 3 weeks ago. Bike was used as a demo with (another) snowbike kit on it for 2 rides with 5 hours on it, has not/wont touch dirt to be set up as a dedicated snow bike running an '18 timbersled ARO 120 kit w/ TSS shock strut. She's gotten a TI FMF 4.1 full exhaust, oxford hand warmers, Ridgid Industries light bar, seat concepts 1" tall seat, Riders Edge snowbike heavy fork springs, YZ/f left foot peg mount, Timbersled front number plate bag, acerbis hand guards, Frog Skinz on intake cover. Still to come for 'thing 2' (snowbike) is Trail Tech Voyager, larger fuel tank (more than likely same IMS 2.5gal), possibly thermo-bob, bar raisers. Custom matching graphics kit for bike and timbersled would be neat too but haven't seen anything I would like that's not over the top.

What did you do to your YZ450FX today?

The 4.1s are quite a bit louder, I got the q4 on mine and with the spark arrestor plug in it is very similar to stock sound. Made to meet max decibles for woods riding.

What did you do to your YZ450FX today?

I put an FMF q4 on my bike. I like how it stayed quiet with the spark arrestor plug in for the trails. About same decibel level, just throatier. Didn't really get a chance to tell if there was a power difference between it and stock just because I put a tune on it at the same time. I also like having the removable spark arrestor for when I go to the track- it sounds great. My buddy has a FMF 4.1 on his '15 450f and has a similar sound... definitely louder than with the S.A. Could be just in my mind but feels a little peppier opened up.

    2016 Desert 100!

Same reason they give out iron man t-shirts before you even do the poker run now. Back when I did it on my crf150f I had to do my 2 laps to earn my shirt.

Anyone pick up a 450FX yet?

So, this happened yesterday.... Came home to my parents' with my new FX (I work on the road, came back for a race and to buy my new bike). Was planning on giving my dad my '13 WR 450. During break-in of my FX (on our .8 mile track on their 20 acres), my dad was riding the '13 and did the ol' swaparoo in between laps. He stopped inconspicuously, ran over to me, said 'here let's switch bikes,' pulls mine out from under me and takes off on mine. After I sat on and started the bike , something felt and sounded way weird... I was definitely not on my '13. I was actually sitting on my dads' new '16 WR450F. Between those 3 bikes, this will be a perfect 'from the average (b class) set of trail riders' review. We are going to a big ride this weekend and after some hours on the bikes I will report in. So far, LOVE the bikes. The '16 WR has throttle screw removed, opened stock exhaust, and airbox opened up. Stock FX. Definitely different power delivery, and each suspension setup is great in their own way. (Have not played with clickers or sag yet, both stock settings. Dad and I both sit 220/240 lbs w/o gear). More to come!!

What did you do to your YZ450FX today?

What did I do? Yesterday I bought it, ran her through the break-in procedure, and first oil change. And today, I'm gonna put her between my legs and tear it up!
  12. X2 here Carb is just flooded. I don't see any reason to need to change the spark plug? Or transmission ruined? Being on its side shouldn't have to do with any of that, and if the oil couldn't even itself out in the case after being back upright over night you already had previous issues. Like I quoted just leave choke off, WOT (wide open throttle) and give her some kicks. Hot start release could help too. Once the bike starts/runs for a second, if it dies, just try starting normally. Then go tear it up mate!

Anyone pick up a 450FX yet?

My dealer sent a picture of mine ready to go, picking her up tomorrow! Moving up from '13 WR450. Must say I've been waiting for this bike since before I bought the '13. Also my 2 cents on the subject, being 6'1 240lbs the fact everyone is concerned with 17 lbs difference is so obnoxious. If Yamaha reliability is gonna mean I have to deal with the extra weight, I say feel free to tack another 5 lbs on there haus.

    Radiator guards on 450FX

I've always ran devol rad guards. Have them on my '13 wr 450, and will probably have them on my 450fx when I pick it up in a week. They always seem to fit great (unless you have already tweaked a radiator and you have to 'make things work' )
