    ktm 2008 250xcf-w

Do you guys know if they changed engines in the 250 xc from 2007 to 2008? I believe they changed engines in the 450 and I'm not sure about the 250. I am also figuring that these bikes should be more durable with less maintenance than a YZ450F.

    ktm 2008 250xcf-w

Thanks for the info. It sounds like the 250 xcf is certainly a capable enduro racing machine and also suitable for some mx racing. My options at the dealer are either a 2007 KTM 250 xcf-w or a 2008 KTM xcf both at around the same price. I am leaning towards the 2008 model as I am worried the wide ratio may be a little tame for our tight mx track.

    ktm 2008 250xcf-w

What kind of horsepower does the ktm 250xcf w produce? I can't seem to find any dynojet results for this bike. I am looking to switch from riding a YZ450F to a 250 XCF or 250 XCF W as I ride mostly trail with some MX. I am an older rider and race vet class totally for fun. I find the YZ450 too much bike for me and very untractable in the corners. I also want a more durable bike for all day trail riding.

    '06 YZ450 Hot Start Question

Guys I have a 03 Y50F and I recently replaced the hotstart cable as the old one was stiff. The new cable is equally as stiff and I am trying to figure out how to adjust it properly with proper recoil etc. There is a spring between the plunger and the nut. I did notice a fair amount of dirt around the plunger. Any other ideas?

    Which Dual Sport?

What do you think of the KTM 450 EXC? Its street legal and 20 to 30 lbs lighter than the 530. I am looking at the 450 but am wondering how it compares to the XC series and whether its powerful enough for hard trail use and playing on some tracks.
  7. Does anyone know if the EVS neck brace will fit with body armour, specifcally Ascerbis?
  8. I'm definitely not interested in the CRF 150 or 230 as they are too slow and heavy. My son likes and can handle the torque of the yz85 but he is outgrowing it. The 125 2 stroke makes snese but in another couple of years he'll be reeady for the 250. I can also tame down the 250 2 stroke with a fly wheel weight. Are the 250 2 strokes more trail compatible than the 125?
  9. The bid issue for me trying to decide between 2 and 4 strokes was the cost of the rebuilds. In the end I found a good deal on a 2003 yz450F complete with a flywheel weight. It was raced by an local intermediate rider for two years and used by me for three years. I am a vet rider with moderate experience and am 5ft 11 and weigh 190lbs. I race only the local races and also trail ride. The valve clearances were checked for the first time four months ago and only one shim was required. I am thrilled at its durability but I am religious at oil changes and clean air filters. My issue is trying to decide the next bike for my son. He is turning 14 is 125lbs and is growing out of his yz85. He races school boy but does a lot of trail riding. I would like to get him a a good bike for both mx/trail that is durable. We are leaning towards a 125 2 stroke as it is light which he will need. What do you guys think? What are other options? Anyone use a KTM 144 2 stroke?

    ttr 125 mods

My son has a ttr 125 and at the end of last year he was bottoming out. I have put on the BBR frame cradle and also bought the heavier rear spring from BBR and the stiffer front fork springs. I am having trouble figuring out how to swap the front fork springs as the manual seems unclear. Does anyone have any tech tips or more detailed procedures for taking apart the front forks?

    YZ450F Oil Life

I am riding my 2003 yz450 during the winter and was wondering what oil to use. In the summer I use Yamalub 20W40. Winter here in Canada is cold and I was looking for a 5w40 oil suitable for cold weather ice racing. Anyone have any ideas?

    fluids on a 04 yz85

My son's yz 85 takes 5ooml of oil. The thing I can't figure out is how to check the oil level after you've filled it!! I heard there is a screw on the opposite side of the engine that you can loosen and as long as oils flows out of it you're at the right level. Can anyone confirm this and do you have any photos of where this screw is.
  13. I have a 03 450F with a fly wheel weight. It is much more ridable and still a very fast machine. One way to tell on my bike is the addition of a gasket or spacer over the fly wheel case. The shim or spacer is required in order to accomodate the additional size of the weight.

Did you find a good shop manual? I have a 2003 yz 450 and like you find the owners manual somewhat helpful but limiting given my mech ability. Let me know if you found a good one>

    KLX 300 Manuals

I have a 2001 KLX 300 with a street legal Baja kit. I found two websites that have amazing tech tips complete with pictures for all sorts of repairs and mods. www.planetklx.com and www.klxzone.co.uk I have used the manual since finding that first site.
